    Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) – A proactive approach used to improve safety and promote positive organizational climate and culture

    Restorative Practices – Improves and repairs relationships between people to build healthy communities

    Social-Emotional Learning – The process through which people acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions

    Crisis Management – Training and preparation needed to help organizations effectively respond to and recover from unexpected, high-stress situations. These can include mental health crises, organizational violence, natural disasters, or community trauma.

    Multitiered Systems of Support (MTSS) – Supports the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development of all individuals, leading to enhanced learning outcomes and overall individual well-being.

    4 Stages of Building a Healthy Organizational Climate and Culture

    1. Planning
      • Establish your team and create space and time for the team to do the work
      • Evaluate current systems in place for climate and culture (i.e., : PBIS, Restorative, Panorama and SEL)
      • Begin to Build your plan to establish foundation
      • Expectations in Common Areas (i.e., Hallway, Restroom and Eating Areas)
      • Establish or Reinforce PD plan
      • Set a date to start and plan for implementation
      • Plan for observations, coaching, feedback and reteaching
    2. Training
      • All staff must be trained on any systems or interventions that they are expected to implement (i.e., PBIS Tier 1 or 2, Restorative Practice, Social Emotional Learning, Life Space Crisis Intervention)
      • PRIOR TO implementation ALL staff should walk through the plan for implementation (i.e., playbook – Your plan for Climate and Culture)
      • A plan should be established for ongoing professional development for all staff as they mature and develop, and to reinforce concepts with staff throughout the year
    3. Implementation of the Plan
      • Organizational-wide norms, expectations and routines in the common areas
      • Norms and routines to support instruction and SEL work with students and staff
    4. Observations, Coaching, Feedback & Reteaching of the Skills
      • Implementation “look for’s”
      • Sharing data with staff
      • Real-time feedback
      • Professional development, coaching and training for staff
